ELMA SCHOOL UPDATE
It has been an exciting time at both the school and orphanage over the last few months. We raised enough money to replace all of the metal roofs (very hot in dry season….very noisy in the wet season) at the ELMA SCHOOL. We also used funds to redecorate the classrooms AND build a separate small office for the teaching staff because up until now, the teachers were sharing a tiny office space in the library!
All of this construction has taken place during the school’s summer recess, so the pupils will be going back to a brand new ELMA SCHOOL in September. Not only new buildings but a new IT class AND a new pre-school class for 4-5 year olds, which our amazing long term volunteer Jo set up. Jo has had to go back to her day job in Hong Kong but we have managed to train one of our female ELMA SCHOOL graduates to run the pre-school class, aided by a couple of local mothers acting as classroom assistants Quite an amazing achievement all round.
ELMA/CRC ORPHANAGE UPDATE
The ELMA kids in the orphanage (or home as we like to call it) all managed to graduate to the next grade at school. During their summer recess we hired a young female English teacher to teach them English, on site in one of the spare buildings. They really enjoyed these classes so we shall keep them going to supplement their grade school classes.
All of the ELMA kids at the orphanage graduated up to the next grade. Their sponsors are really proud of them, especially when they see photos of them on the first day of school (with school bus).
